My Path to Stronger, Healthier Me

My weight loss journey began on August 6, 2024. I wasn’t feeling well. I was already living with type 2 diabetes, fluctuating high blood pressure, and rising cholesterol. It was clear that something had to change. At the time, I wore a size 3X, and doctors classified me as morbidly obese with a BMI over 40.

By December, I had lost almost 41 pounds, and by Christmas, my total weight loss reached 47 pounds. I started strong, fasting for 16 hours a day and consuming between 1,200 and 1,500 calories daily. The weight was coming off rapidly. However, I later learned that intermittent fasting wasn’t the best option for diabetics, so I stopped but continued eating under 1,500 calories. Some days, my intake dipped just under 1,000, though not too often.

The progress was incredible. I managed to lower my glucose levels significantly and even reduced my medications. But then, the holidays hit. With all the delicious food and desserts around, I slipped. I fell off the wagon, so to speak, and I still struggle to this day.

The struggle is real. Even though I remind myself that I don’t want to regain the weight or let my health decline again, it’s not always easy. Binge eating is a real challenge sometimes. I don’t even realize I’m doing it until it’s over, and then all I can do is sit with the guilt.

But this is one battle I refuse to lose, because I can’t afford to.
